According to a WSJ article, sleepers can be segmented into different categories: Twenty percent of people plump-up their pillows into a marshmallow-shape, 16% fold them or roll them to make them more comfortable to sleep on, and about 10% punch them before they put their head on them. To reach the segment that stacks up two or more pillow, pillow manufacturers sell pillows packaged as pairs.

Other research shows that across all segments, many adults drool saliva onto their pillow at night while they sleep. Suppose the Sleep-Well Company develops an anti-microbial pillow that kills the germs which breed in such warm, damp environments.
