Pap smear test is to find out human papilloma virus transmitted by unprotected sexual intercourse which can cause cervical cancer.

It is considered as a screening test for cervical cancer.

There are some to do before pap smear test:

48 hours prior test should

  • Avoid sexual intercourse
  • Avoid use of vaginal creams or foams
  • Avoid douche or tub bath
  • Avoid tampon, vaginal medicine moisturizer etc

And this is to avoid washing out of abnormal cells from cervix,

it is recommended to avoid pap smear test during menstruation, and atleast 2 weeks after starting the menstrual cycle. But, test during menstruation is not contraindicated.
