Marketing plays a crucial role in the implementation of the adaptive strategies for expansion. It is responsible for getting feedback from the ground and also conveying customer expectations to the product team which then aligns the product as per these requirements. Without the input from marketing and proper alignment of the 4 Ps namely product specifications, pricing of the product and adequate promotion and placing the product strategically to maximize sales, the chances of the expansion working to the company's advantage is very slim. It is also first to interface with the customer and hence responsible for suggesting necessary corrective actions to take to ensure the product is continually improved and sales growth is realised.

In case of a product not doing well or it failing to address the needs of the target market, then it is the market which takes a lead role in phasing out the product and replacing it with a better alternative in the market that is accepted by the customer in a more robust manner. Thus marketing plays a crucial role in scope reduction strategies as well.
