The cations has positive charges which are metals.

The anions have negative charges that are non-metals.

For AX2 ,

Cation should be A2+ and anion should be 2 X-

So A2+ should belong to group 2 A such as Mg2+

and X- should belong to Group 7A with -1 charge such as Cl-.

So the correct option should be (a) A is a metal from Group 2A and X is a non metal from Group 7A
