Question

D 3CA B C 2CE 2C

Two charges are located in a plane as shown. At what indicated position on the connecting line between the two charges would the force on a third charge of 2C most likely be zero? Note: position B means 'exactly in the middle between the two charges.'

Answer #1

Because the all charges are positive so they repel each other with a force of repulsion. Now if we put the charge on the exact middle position means at position B then 3C charge which is higher in magnitude repel the charge strongly away from him but 2C charge can't so here net force is not zero. Now if we put the charge at position A then charge 3C push the charge away from him and charge change their position upto B position because 2C charge also repelling the charge.

So, at position A net force is likely to be zero.
