Answer #1

When total utility declines then marginal utility will become negative, This is due to law of diminishing marginal utility and as per this law when one starts increasing the consumption of a commodity, say, coffee then with an additional increase in the quantity the marginal utility which a person gets starts decreasing and as the person continues to increase consumption of a commodity. i.e. coffee his/her marginal utility will keep on decreasing and his total utility will increase with a decreasing rate till a point when it becomes maximum and then it starts declining and marginal utility also becomes negative.
