OH- is called the hydroxide ion as it contains the negative charge located on oxygen. It is an anion with diatomic having O and H as the two atoms and are held by a covalent bond wherein O is more electronegative atom compared to H and as such hydroxide ion is basic in nature and acts as a nucleophile.
