calculate ka for the caption and kb for the anion I'm an aqueous NH4CN solution.
is the solution acidic, basic, or neutral
pKa of NH4+ = 9.255
pKb of CN- = 4.792
pH = 7 + 1/2 (pKa - pKb)
= 7 + 1/2 (9.255 - 4.792)
pH = 9.23
so this solution is basic
calculate ka for the caption and kb for the anion I'm an aqueous NH4CN solution. is...
Please help?
I
know the solution will be acidic because Kb of acetate > Ka of
Al(H2O)6^3+, but I don't understand why you would even compare the
Kb with the Ka
3. When dissolved in water, will aluminum acetate produce an acidic, basic, or neutral solution? Explain. Ka for Al(H20)63+ = 1.4 x 10-5 Ka for HC2H302 = 1.8 x 10-5
An aqueous solution is made with the salt obtained from combining the weak acid acetic acid, CH3CO2H, and the weak base methylamine, CH2NH2. Is the solution acidic, basic, or neutral? Ka=1.8×10−5 and Kb=4.4×10−4
Problem 1. Aqueous solutions of below are neutral, basic, or acidic? (a) NaNO3 (b) KF (c) NH4Br (d) C6H5COONa Problem 2. Determine whether an aqueous solution of CH3COONH4 is acidic, basic or neutral? The Ka of NH4+ is 5.6 x 10-10 and the Kb of CH3COO- is 5.6 x 10-10
Calculate (H+), [C102], and (OH) in an aqueous solution that is 0.165 M in HCIO, (aq) at 25 °C. [c107] = [OH-] = 1 Is the solution acidic, basic or neutral? acidic O basic O neutral
Calculate [H+ [CIOJ, and [OH] in an aqueous solution that is 0.170 M in HCIO2 (aq) at 25 °C H* М [CIO; М OH М Is the solution acidic, basic or neutral? acidic basic neutral
use a table of ka and kb to determine pH of the 0.10 M
CH3NH3Cl
d. 0.10 M CHÁNH,CI 4. Use the table of K and K values to predict whether a solution of NH CN is acidic, basic, or neutral. Explain your choice.
Determine the Kb of sodium bisulfite. Compare Kb to Ka of sodium bicarbonate. Would you expect a sodium bicarbonate solution to be acidic or basic?
xc. Predict semi-quantitatively whether the following solutions are acidic, basic, or nearly neutral. (a) NH4NO2 (b) NH4F (c) NH4CN (d) NaHCO (e) K2HPO4 (f) (NHA)2SO The first part is solved below. Use similar reasoning to make predictions for the other solutions (a) Ka for NH,-5.6x 1010 and Ko for NO is 2.2x 10. Since the Ka is about 25 times larger than Kb, the solution should be acidic.
40. Calculate the pH of a 1.64 M NH4CN solution. What is the pH of 700.0 mL of an aqueous solution containing 0.145 g of HCl?
