Answer #1

A)

X-component,

F = T sin20 ....... (1)

Y-component,

T cos 20 = mg ......... (2)

From (1) and (2) we get

F = mg tan20 = (0.23 x 10^-3 x 9.8) x tan20

F = 0.00082 N

B)

Tension, T = mg/cos20 = (0.00023 x 9.8)/cos20 = 0.0024 N

C)

Charge, q = d sqrt(mg tan(theta) /k)

q = (0.0205) sqrt (0.00023 x 9.8 x tan20/9 x 10^9)

Charge, q = 6.19 nC

    Just "B" please in detail.   Imagine that we suspend two small plastic spheres with mass m using insulating threads of length L from a common point. If the spheres are uncharged, they will hang so they touch; but when they are both given the same charge q, they repel each other and hang a distance d apart, as shown below. Assume that d is pretty small compared to L but large compared to the diameter of the balls. (a) Explain,...
