54) B) Hypertensive crisis is a side effect of MAOs (Monoamine oxidase inhibitors).

     * Monoamine oxidase help to metabolize tyramine which is a catecholamine

       releasing amine responsible for high blood pressure.

   * Monoamine oxidase inhibitors inhibit monoamine oxidase which results in

      decreased metabolism of tyramine.

     * Increased level of tyramine results in high blood pressure and leads to hypertensive

        crisis.
