The causes of upper and lower respiratory tract infections are mainly due to bacteria or virus or any pathogen. Most of the allergic reactions trigger respiratory system to get infection. Pneumonia is caused by bacteria or virus etc. Thus pneumonia is classified as bacterial pneumonia, viral pneumonia and aspiration pneumonia.

Some of the organisms causing pneumonia are Streptococcus, Mycoplasma, flu virus etc. Aspiration pneumonia is caused due to aspiration of food or fluids etc. The inhaled pathogen entered the lung lobe and thus causes pneumonia.
