EMTALA is Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act enacted in 1986 . It is a federal law which states that in emergency every patient must be screened and provided care to stabilize according to their condition and if not able to stabilize transfer the patient to other facility whether the patient is able to pay or having a insurance .

COBRA - Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act. It is also known as anti dumping act . Both the act is patient transfer act .

When we perform an interagency transfer of patient ,the following rules of COBRA and EMTALA are followed :-

- signed consent from the patient for transfer

- acceptance from the accepting facility ensuring their is availability of beds and facility.

AMA form is filled if the patient seeking emergency care wants to leave without examination from the emergency .

An advance directive is a will made by patient so that according to that actions can be taken when the patient is unable to make decisions in future due to disease condition .

There is no form exercising the patient's right for interagency transfer of patient .
