using the information here how do i calculate bad debt expense for January 2012? i know it is supposed to be 340 but how do you get to that?

Ending allowance for doubtful debts for jan 2012 = 800 *50% = 400 [ since 30 it now more than 30 days uncollectible]

Write off during 2012 = 200

Bad debt expense = Ending allowance for doubtful debts for jan 2012 +Write off during 2012 - Balance as on Jan 2012 = 400+200 -260 = $340
