Refractive index of any substance is the ratio of speed of light in vacuum to speed of light in that medium. For a solution, the refractive index depends upon its concentration. Greater the concentration, greater in the refractive index. It also depends on the temperature and density. Greater the temperature, lesser is the refractive index. Greater the density, greater is the refractive index.
