1)Planning :

Planning is an intellectual process through which future course of action is estimate consciously to achieve desired result.Planning is the primary function of management. It involves selection of course of action from all alternative for accomplishing the desire results with the greatest economic and certainty.

According to Henri Fayol, Planning is define as " The plan of action is, at the same time, the result envisaged, the time of action to be followed, the stages to go through and method to use."

Strategic planning :

​​​​​​The implementation of an organisation's objective is known as strategic planning. It is a long term planning and it considered the position of goods and services in the market, technology development, development of labour relations etc. The strategic planning process is the key to long-term success of the organisation. It is prepared by top level management and it not change frequently.

Strategic planning is formulated in three levels of organisation-

(i) Corporate level

(ii) Business unit level

(iii) Functional area level

Operational Planning :

Operational planning refer to detailed plan and approaches to the implementation of current activities and the allocation of resources for the thoughts activities. Operational planning is prepared as a part of strategic planning.It is prepared to solve temporary problem of business unit. This planning is made to determine what to do, why to do, how to do the work, what will be the effect of the work and when to do work.

2)Value of Stategic and Operational Planning :-

Stategical planning is long term planning. It main objective is the long-term success of the organisation. It is the process of deciding the objective of the organisation and the resources used to achieve this objective and the policies that are governed the acquisition, use and disposition of these resources. Stategical planning tell that what an organisation intend to do or what paths it intend to take in order to have a balanced development in term of it objective. Where as Operational planning is prepared to solve the temporary problem of the organisation. It is a type of planning which determine what work has to do in a particular situation, why do do that work and how to do the work. It provide full detail of the work and its effect. Operational planning emphasize how the objective of the organisation will be accomplished.

3)Strategical Planning is a process by which top level management specify the intent relationship between organisation and environment through the active formulation of fundamental objective and determination of the means of achieving them. Thus, Top level management is responsible for evaluating the progress of strategic planning. Operational planning is prepared as a part of statistical planning. So, it is prepared by top level management but implemented by the employees of the organisations who perform the activities. But the progress of the operational planning is evaluated by the top level management.
