Parents are the primary care takers of an individual. The role of a parent is very important in physical, emotional and cognitive development of a child. It is seen that parents are the first source of human contact to the imdividual they are the genetic predecors to the child and passes on biological traits to the individual. For example if a parent has genetic suseptibility to any disease he or she may pass it onto their children.

Talking about the psychosocial development of the individual, parents play a major role here too. The child learns what they see, the attributes of the parents are sure to be followed and learnt by the child. Attachment, affection and love that the child receives from a parent helps in developing qualities such as trust, independence and compassion. People who have less remorse and empathy are seen to have lacked parental love as a child. Therefore, it can be said that a parent plays crucial role in development of the child in every aspect of life.
