Number of units required to sell to earn a target profit equal to 45% of sales = [Total Fixed Cost + (45% on $540,000)] / [Selling price per unit - Variable cost per unit]

= [$117,000 + ($540,000*45/100)] / ([$540,000/9,000 units] - [$216,000/9,000 units]

= [$117,000 + $243,000] / [$60 per unit - $24 per unit]

= $360,000 / $36 per unit

= 10,000 units

Therefore, number of units required to sell to earn a target profit equal to 45% of sales is 10,000 units.
