Hoods are of various different types which can be based on the requirement or can bebon the type of sterile product prepared.
The different types of hoods are as follow:
-horizontal flow hoods, vertical laminar flow hoods and biological safety cabinets (BSCs)/barrier isolator hood. All these hoods have high efficiency particulate filters (HEPA).
Horizontal hoods: these give positive air pressure which directs all the filtered air towards the technician who is preparing the solutions. It sucks air from the environment then the air travels through the filter and then smoothly it blows out of the machine into the environment again.
The laminar flow hood should be inspected of certified every 6monthly as the air flown through it provides an ISO 5 type of environment.
