# Nursing implications while administering the injection to Mrs Lowe are :-

- 1. Wash hands.

- 2. Look at MAR/eMAR for order.

- 3. Verify correct patient on eMAR and state the 6 rights of medication administration. Also assess patient for any allergies at this time.

- 4. State drug information including:

1. Drug action

2. Recommended dosage

3. Common side effects

4. Contraindications

IF PUSHING MEDICATION THROUGH AN EXISTING IV LINE, DETERMINE COMPATABILITY WITH IV FLUID.

- 5. Gather information and check against the MAR.

- 6. Calculate the proper dosage of medication and verbalize amount of medication to be drawn into the syringe.

- 7. Select syringe and 18 gauge needle to draw up medication.

AVOID USING BLUNT NEEDLE TO DRAW UP MEDICATION.

8. Remove the lid of vial (as appropriate) without contaminating the vial's diaphragm. Cleanse the top of the lid for 15 seconds with an alcohol wipe.

9. Attach the needle to the syringe without contaminating the needle or the syringe.

10. Give the injection appropriately as per the correct technique. IM injection is given at 90° , SC injection given at 45° - 60° , ID injection is given at 15°and IV injection is given through intravenous line .
