Answer #1

SOLUTION:

PART (a):

Anxiety, stress or tension will cause increased secretion of hydrochloric acid HCl (acid, pH=1.8) in the stomach by parietal cells.

This highly acidic HCl causes strong pain and burning sensation in stomach.

PART (b):

In order to cure this condition, a base should be intaken to neutralize excess HCl.

This base is commonly called Antacids. Most common antacid compositions are, Calcium carbonate (CaCO3), Magnesium hydroxide (MgOH), aluminum hydroxide (Al(OH)3) , sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3) or a mixture of all of these.

These strong bases can neutralize excess HCl forming a new salt, and reducing irritation due to acid.
