This is for the Grignard Reaction laboratory. Please help me answer this question, much appreciated.

1. If a student performing Laboratory with Grignard reaction accidently used acetone as the reaction solvent instead of diethyl ether, what would the major organic product(s) be? Draw the structure of the product(s) (no mechanism necessary).

b. What was the purpose of adding magnesium sulfate in this experiment?

c. Grignard reagents react with both aldehyde and ketone functional groups. How do you predict the reaction rate would change if the aldehyde in this lab was switched to a ketone? Explain your answer.

d. Acid chlorides (R-COOCl) are a functional group that can be synthesized from a carboxylic acid, and are very useful as “building blocks” for a wide variety of reactions. They react with Grignard reagents in a 2:1 ratio of Grignard:acid chloride. Predict the major organic product of the following reaction and show the mechanism for how it is formed

Thank you very much!

When an aldehyde or ketone undergo a nucleophilic attack, the reaction follows a nucleophilic addition mechanism. Conversely, carboxylic acids and their derivatives are known to undergo nucleophilic acyl substitution. Even though all of these functional groups are defined by the carbonyl group, they react very differently. In 1-3 sentences, explain why an aldehyde and a carboxylic acid derivative follow different mechanistic pathways in the presence of a nucleophilic species.
