Rabies is a viral disease that can cause inflammation of the brain. It is spread to people from the saliva of infected animals such as bats, foxes, skunks, and raccoons. In order to prevent being infected by the virus, a rabies vaccine can be given. The rabies vaccine exposes a patient to an inactivated antigen from the rabies virus, allowing the immune system to respond to this antigen and develop a memory response to the antigen in the event of a future exposure. This is given by intramuscular injection and leads to immunization against the rabies virus. However, if an unvaccinated individual is bitten by an infected animal, they may develop symptoms like fever, headache, excess salivation, muscle spasms, paralysis, and confusion. If left untreated, this can be life-threatening. In this case, a patient should promptly receive an intramuscular injection of antibodies that are produced in a lab. These antibodies are developed specifically to bind the rabies virus and prevent it from invading the central nervous system. The rabies virus vaccine will also be administered to initiate an immune response. Here, the rabies virus vaccine is an example of a ____________ -based therapy and the rabies virus antibody therapy is an example of a ____________ -based therapy.

protein; protein

cell; protein

gene; gene

Answer #1

As per paragraph we have two type of therapy one is vaccine and another one is the antibody therapy.

Antibody is our defence system and proteinous in nature whereas antigen is the foreign substance invading our immune system.

Here rabies vaccine is live killed vaccine producing immunity against the rabies virus which is prepared from cell.

Whereas antibody dose therapy of rabies kill the already present virus means we are giving a proteinous solution to invade them.

Hence answer is cell; protein

Note. Here answer is given based on the source of two therapy made but if you are considering there mechanism of action then both are protein based only.

A host organism needs time, often days, to mount an immune response against a new antigen, but memory cells permit a rapid response to pathogens previously encountered. A vaccine to protect against a particular viral infection often consists of weakened or killed virus or isolated proteins from a viral protein coat. When injected into a person, the vaccine generally does not cause an infection and illness, but it effectively teaches the immune system what the viral particles look like, stimulating...
