He was able to fill the serum microtainer and proceeded to collect the CBC. He had to use a lot of pressure on the finger to keep the blood flowing, but he eventually filled a lavender microtainer for the CBC. After the samples had been submitted to the lab he was told to recollect the CBC because the results were questionable. QUESTIONS 1. What was most likely wrong with the CBC sample? Is Only the CBC affected?

While collecting the specimen by the capillary puncture ,a good blood flow is very essential .when the skin is puncture collect the hematology specimen first and then the biochemistry and blood bank specimen.this order of draw is very essential ,if not followed there is a risk of platelet clubbing and the result may varry.

Squeezing the finger too tightly leads to the dilution of specimen with tissue fluid (plasma)and increase the possibility of hemolysis and thus varry the result .

This is the reason the lab told to recollect the sample order of draw and correct sampling technique is very essential.
