1. What is the rate-Atrial and Ventricular? 2. Is the heart rhythm considered regular? 3. What is the P wave duration and mor

How would I answer these when reading an EKG?

1. For heart rate (I think step one) I know we can do the qrs waves times 10 to determine HR. But would that be ventricular rate or atrial rate? How would I find the other one?

2. regular or irregular i understand

3. 4. 5. for durations, what do we multiple the amount of mini squares by? and what does it mean by morphology?

Answer #1

1. Number of QRS complexes per minute, is ventricular rate

Atrial rate :-

number of P waves per minute, atrial contraction

6 second strip

#QRS's x 10 = bpm

#P's ×10 = bpm

2. To understand the rate is regular or irregular :-

Measure the distance between all RR wave and if they all are same then the rhythm is regular and if not then they are irregular .

3. PR duration :-

Count the small squares between start of P wave and Start of QRS complex, and multiply it by .04

Duration should be .12- .20 sec

QRS wave represents depolarisation of ventricles

Wide QRS indicates

ventricular conduction delay

Missing QRS indicates

AV block of ventricular standstill

Deep wide Q wave represents

MI

Normal Duration of QRS complex

Should be between .06- .10 sec, same size and shape, after every p wave

Measure from end of PR interval to end of S wave, count the # of squares and multiply by .04
