In a thermal voltaic process the infrared part of the sunlight is being harnessed by using focussing mirrors to concentrate light on a pipe containing a transport medium which will be thereby heated up. The transport medium will then be used to generate steam for a generator which will drive a turbine that ultimately produces electricity.
In a photo voltaic process the visible part of the sunlight is being harnessed by using solar cells which can convert sunlight directly into electricity.
