The splenic enlargement causes upper left quadrant pain that common in athletes when there is trauma or injury and with sickle cell anemia trait. sickle cell anemia common in African American people. that time o2 supply to spleen will be diminished that causes tissue death. the patient feels relief after o2 therapy.
Caused include blunt injury or trauma that is common for athletes and hematological disease or sickle cell disease.
CT scanning with IV contrast finds out splenic infarction.
High lactate dehydrogenase(LDH) found in splenic infarction. it shows acute or chronic cell damage. the additional diagnostic test help to make the correct diagnosis.
