Folic acid is also called folate, it is a B vitamin help body to make RBC, sythesis and repair DNA and other genetic materials. It is one of the important supplement that the Gynaecologist  prescibed during pregnancy because it helps to form neural tube develop into brain and spinal cord hence prevent neural defects in newborns.

The recommended daily dosage of folic acid is 400mcg in male, 400 to 800mcg in females . 600mcg if pregnant or 500mcg if lactating.

Foods rich in folate are cereals, green leafy vegetables,ladies finger, cauliflower, beatroots, aasparagus,brocolli, rice, Pappaya and Orange, avacado, pasta and bread, Seeds and nuts, brussels sprouts, beans,peas and lentils.
