ARTERIAL ULCER VENOUS ULCER
25.1)history The patient will generally have a positive history of smoking, hypertension, hyper lipidemia, intermittent claudication, diabetes mellitus and pain after exertion and elevation of leg. The patient may have history of multiple pregnancies, deep vein thrombosis, varicose veins, pain and swelling at end of day which relieves on elevation of leg above heart level.
25.2) classic site Occurs in heel, feet, metatarsal heads and bases. Can also occur in upper limb digits. Around and above the medial malleolus called gaiters area
25.3) exudate level Low to moderate in arterial ulcers. It is low compared to venous ulcers. High exudates are seen in case of venous ulcers
25.4) pain Very painful and tender with resting pain Comparatively less painful and sometime painless. Presence of secondary infection makes it painful
25.5) oedema Not so common and may or may not be present Oedema is common
25.6) skin colour

Shiny and taut skin, ischemic or gangrenous skin can be seen

Surrounding skin is hyper pigmented and dark. Lipodermatosclerosis is common.
25.7) local temperature Colder in temperature Warmer in temperature
