Double displacement reaction : A reaction in which two reactants exchange ions to form new compounds.

There are three types of double displacement reactions

1) Precipitation

2) Neutralization (acid-base)

3) Gas formation.

Given equations are examples of acid base reactions.

Equation 1 : HBr + NaOH \rightarrow NaBr + H2O

Equation 2 : 2 HCl + Mg(OH) 2 \rightarrow MgCl 2 + 2 H2O
