Question

QUESTION 7 10 points The smallest digit of a number is the uncertain digit. For example the number 3 in the number 2.3 is the uncertain digit. So the number 2.3 is known to within a tenth of a unit (because 3 is in the tenth digit) In adding or subtracting numbers, determine which number has the largest uncertainty and round the result of the addition/subtraction to that digit. Example: 36.7+102.45 -139.15-139.2 The reason: Because the largest udcertainty is in the tenth digit (36.7) one must round the result to the tenth digit 0.0342 102 5.47- 97 口ゆ

Answer #1

.0342 + 102 - 5.47 = 96.5642

But 102 is only accurate to the nearest integer, so the answer has to be rounded down to the nearest integer which is 97. Hence the answer is 97.

The "best" result is always associated with the measurement with the smallest uncertainty. Measurement B has half the standard uncertainty of measurement A. Therefor e our 68 % coverage probability is associated with a smaller interval (83.44 g o 83.56 g) for measurement B than measurement A (83.38 g to 83.62 g). In other words we have better knowledge about the value of the measurand from measurement B, since we have the same coveroge probability associated with a norrower interval....
