Safety is the major concern to be remembered while lifting weighted objects. Back injuries are the safety hazards often happens in the workplace. In this case, it is clearly mentioned that, Ellen Armstrong is tired and is not interested in doing this task ( keeping inactive patient files to a storage area). Because of this, finally she tries to carry both the cartons together and with her sudden bend on waist may lead to serious injuries. The things one should bear in mind, while lifting weighted objects are:

a) Do not try to lift weights more than you are able to hold.

b) Move your feet instead of you body while taking weights.

RECOMMENDED: Always follow these steps to prevent from back injuries, whatever matters our own safety is highly important while lifting weighted objects.

1. Bend your knees ( not your waist) and use your leg muscles to do the lifting. This will help the body to keep the center of balance.

2. The loads should be hold close to the body and should keep a straight posture ( standing position) before the next step.

3. Avoid twisting. Twisting can leads to injuries. Keep your feet, knees and torso in the same direction when lifting the objects.

With these steps, Ellen Armstrong can easily end with her task without any serious injuries.
