A massless spring is attached to a support at one end and has a 2.0 μC charge glued to the other end. A -4.0 μC charge is slowly brought near. The spring has stretched 1.2 cm when the charges are 2.7 cm apart.

Answer #1

Here ,

let the spring constant is k

spring force = electric force

k * x = k * q1 * q2/d^2

k * 0.012 = 9 *10^9 * 2 *10^-6 * 4 *10^-6/0.027^2

solving for k

k = 8230 N/m

the spring constant is 8230 N/m

    A positive charge q1 = 2.90 μc on a frictionless horizontal surface is attached to a spring of force constant k as in the figure shown below. when a charge of q2 =-9.100 μC is placed 9.50 cm away from the positive charge, the spring stretches by 5.00 mm, reducing the distance between charges to d = 9.00 cm. Find the value of k. The response you submitted has the wrong sign. N/m 1 42
