If his speed relative to the ground is 80 km/h, what is the velocity of his airplane relative to the air? (Considering i East and j -North) A) -40i+80j (km/h) B) -40i-80j (km/h) c) 40i+80j (km/h) D) 40i-80) (km/h) E) 40i+40j (km/h)

Answer #1

velocity of aircraft from the ground frame: v1 = 80 j km/h

velocity of air from the ground frame, v2 = 40 i km/h

therefore,

relative velocity of airplane from the frame of air = v1 - v2 = -40 i + 80 j km/h
