Question

2. (a) In describing nuclear model, choice the of potential is important. Infinite well and harmonic oscillator are not suitable to explain nuclear models. Explain why and which potential is used to describe nuclear models. (20 marks) (b) From the nuclear shell model, find spin parity assignment for these nuclei (i) 15C (i) 25Si (i) 52Cr (15 marks) (c) Given spin-parity and energy of 2T:3/2 (0.5 MeV), 3/2 (0.6 MeV), 5/2 (1.1 MeV), 3/2 (1.3 MeV) and 11/2 (2.2 MeV). Draw all configuration of the excited state of 2Ti2 based on the energies given. The spin-parity ground state for 2Ti2is 72 (40 marks) (d) Find the excited state for Cd (even-even nucleus).
