To calculate number of protons,neutrons and electrons following formulas are used:-

1. Number of protons = Atomic number

2. Number of neutrons = Mass number - Atomic number

3. Number of electrons = atomic number - charge

In this question 240Am has mass number = 240

Atomic number = 95

and the element is neutral, therefore charge is zero.

Now,

Number of protons = 95.

Number of electrons = 95-0

= 95

Number of neutrons = 240 - 95

= 145
