Case Study: Greenleaf, a national health insurance company, decided to open a clinic in a busy downtown area near a metro station. It conducted a needs assessment prior to selecting this location. Using GIS mapping, Greenleaf learned that a large percentage of its policyholders worked within a 1-mile radius of the clinic. Over the past year and after an extensive billboard, mail, television, and radio advertising campaign, the clinic continues to be underutilized by nearby workers. Phenomenological study helps to determine the worker's experiences and interpretations with the clinic. The study was conducted among the policyholders within a one-mile radius of the clinic. Researchers will try to understand how will the clinic is viewed by the individual policyholders, thereby gathering the perceptions about the clinic. Individual perceptions may differ or may not be accurate but the study tries to identify the issues of underutilization of the clinic by the policyholders.
