In your response, explain the advantages and challenges of workforce diversity, and recommend approaches for improving communication among diverse workplace audiences.

Diversity is a term used to include the multiple differences across people. Broadly speaking, it refers to the variety of characteristics that the employees at a workplace possess which makes them distinct and unique as individuals. Further, it is also used to classify us into group or sub-groups.

The programs related to diversity are generally aimed at reducing discrimination. These programs also help to foster equality of opportunity for one and all. The dimensions of diversity include multiple characteristics like lineage, culture, ethnicity, race, religion, sex and language.

Diverse teams are found to be highly creative and innovative when compared to localised teams. So, they are able to deliver higher value. Consequently, diversity can also lead to improvement in company performance ultimately delivering better value for shareholders.

Diversity can also lead to miscommunication and misunderstanding if construed wrongly. To avoid this sort of miscommunication, we need to develop skills in listening and understanding. The workplace needs to provide adequate training to help us accommodate the differences and appropriately infer the other person's true meaning for improved understanding and performance in the long run for the organisation.
