England has an absolute advantage in the production of both goods. This is because England is able to produce more of both goods as compared to Spain.
2. Comparative Advantage
A country has a comparative advantage in producing that good if the opportunity cost of producing that good is lower in that country as compared to another country.
England:
10 units of bread = 40 units of Cheese
1 unit of bread = 40/10 = 4 units of Cheese
Opportunity cost of 1 unit of bread is 4 units of Cheese.
Spain:
5 units of bread = 10 units of Cheese
1 unit of bread = 10/5 = 2 units of Cheese
Opportunity cost of 1 unit of bread is 2 units of Cheese.
Spain has lower opportunity cost in the production of bread. So, Spain has comparative advantage in the production of bread.
Answer is; Spain has a comparative advantage in bread.
3.
England:
40 units of Cheese = 10 units of bread
1 unit of Cheese = 10/40 = 1/4 = 0.25 unit of bread
Opportunity cost of 1 unit of Cheese is 0.25 unit of bread.
Spain:
10 units of Cheese = 5 units of bread
1 unit of Cheese = 5/10 = 0.5 unit of bread
Opportunity cost of 1 unit of Cheese is 0.5 units of bread.
