Answer #1

The audit is resolved by mail:

When the audit is resolved by mail, it means either it was a correspondence from the IRS or a minor audit. The reasons for such audit can be a minor oversight, omission of some income or issues which are not complicated to initiate office meetings.

The audit is conducted at the office of the IRS:

When the audit cannot be easily resolved using mail correspondence, the IRS resorts to audit that is conducted at its office. These audits involve complex issues.

A “no change” RAR results:

When the audit is concluded, the examining agent issues a Revenue Agent’s Report (RAR). There are three types of RAR; a refund (for overpaid taxes), a deficiency (for underpaid taxes) or a no change (tax is correct). A no change RAR means the income and the tax filed in the returns with the IRS is correct.

A special agent joins the audit team:

When the IRS suspects a fraud, a special agent joins the audit team or takes over from the regular auditor. In such cases, the taxpayer should take the help of legal counsel.

Note: As per HOMEWORKLIB POLICY, in case of multiple questions, only the first one needs to be answered. Also for multiple sub-questions, the first four need to be answered.
