Loose connective tissue(Areolar tissue)

Arrangement of fibers; Irregular

Types of fibers; collagen, elastic and reticular fibers

How to differentiate the fibers;

1.Collagen fibers; Largest diameter of the three fiber types, contains  consist of bundles of fibrils.

2. Reticular fibers; Smaller in diameter, consist of thin collagen.

3. Elastic fibers; Stretchable type of fibers, made of elastin.
Dense irregular connective tissue.

Location; Dermis of skin, Fasciae, pericardium, periosteum, joint capsules

Arrangement of fibers; Randomly arranged (irregular)

Type of fibers; Collagen fibers.
Dense regular connective tissue

Location; Tendon, ligaments and aponeuroses.

Arrangement of fibers; Regularly arranged as bundles.

Type of fibers; Collagen fibers.

Cartilage

Hyaline cartilage

Fibrocartilage

Elastic cartilage

Location; Ends of long bones, nose, embryonic and fetal skeleton.

Location; Pubic symphysis, intervertebral disc.

Location:Epiglottis, External ear(auricle) and auditory tubes.

The cells of the cartilage is called chondrocytes. Chondrocytes are seen in a space called lacune in the extra cellular matrix.

Types of fibers; collagen fibers.

Bone

The cells of the bone are called osteocytes (mature bone cell) and osteoblast (immature bone cell).

The structural and functional unit of a compact bone is called osteon or haversian system.

Osteon has four parts;

1.Lamellae; Concentric rings which consist od mineral salts. Provides hardness and strength to the bone.

2.Lacunae; Small spaces between lamellae which contain osteocytes.

3.Canaliculi; Network of small canals which project from the lacunae.

4. Haversian or central canal; Contains nerves and blood vessels.
