The patient's vital signs shows an increased blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate and body temperature. An increased respiratory rate indicate that the patient is in respiratory destress and increased heart rate and blood pressure is the body's action towards the lung disfunction because less oxygen supply cause heart to work more to increase cardiac out put leads to increase in heart rate and blood pressure. The inflammatory process in the airways can leads to mild raise in body temperature and cause fever.
The normal ABG values are
PH - 7.35 - 7.45
PaO2 - 75-100 mmHg
PaCO2- 35-. 45 mmHg
HCO3 - 22- 26 mEq/L
Asthma can cause respiratory acidosis. That is the PH and PaO2 will be decreasd, the PaCO2 will increase and the HCO3 will be in normal limit. When we look at the patient value, the pH and PaO2 has decreased from normal value and the PaCO2 is elevated with normal HCO3 levels. Thus the patient has respiratory acidosis.
