1. Developmental task and challenges

Growth and development in a human being is a complex process. Various stages are there in human lifespan such as infancy, toddler hood, childhood, teenage, adulthood and elderly. Each stage has to phase various developmental tasks and challenges.

Young adult :

Developmental tasks : According to Erik Erickson's 'psychosocial stages of development ' theory, the young adult ( 19 to 40) developmental task is to achieve Intimacy, other wise he will go to the feeling of Isolation. Intimacy Vs isolation is the main conflict area of Young adult.

Challenges :

* forming a deep and loveable relationships

* close relationship with family members and friends.

* Marriage and Family with children

Middle adult:

Time period between adulthood and oldage is called Middle adulthood( 40 to 65 years. )

Developmental tasks : Achieving Generativity or they may feel stagnation in their life, is the task of middle adulthood

Challenges: Those individuals who are not achieved the developmental tasks , may feel that that , they are unproductive.

* To do Productive work

* Physiological changes related to aging or Menopause

* maintain standard of living.

* help the children to phase transitions in life such as adolescence.

2. Elder abuse and Texas legal mandate

Improper treatment ( physical, emotional or sexual) is called abuse. Elderly abuse is alarmingly increasing in the country. A nurse should ne awre about the Elderly abuse; signs and symptoms, identification, repoting and intervention.  Texas legal mandate regarding Elderly abuse is as follows:

* Chapter 48, State human resource Code: Protective services and investigations of Elderly abuse should be provided to community . In case of any information of Elderly abuse, Authority can investigate a case of abuse and provide protection services to the victim.Abuse may be in the form of neglect , abuse or exploitation .

Nurse can do great role in assessing the signs and symptoms of Elderly abuse and report it. Penalty can be attracted by first responders, in case if they fail to report the Elderly abuse.

Adult protection Services: Under state law, if any individual, committing a crime or abuse on elderly will be prosecuted under criminal code.

Health staffs, care takers and nursing homes are also subjected to cases, in case of failure of adequate care.

3. Health education for elderly

few modification:

* Education material and format should be in such a way that, size should be large enough to be seen by elderly.( white on a black background or black on a white back ground and large font)

* Involve hearing and touch sensation in health Education activity.

* show respect to elderly and consider the values and beliefs.

* Gestures, facial expressions should be included in communication.

* Health educator should not be strict, use simple sentence

and use calm and understanding approach
