A patient has pulmonary fibrosis and then exercises. Why does the percent saturation of hemoglobin in blood decrease (from 97% to 90%) when they exercise?

When a person exercise, ventilation, and cardiac output rises to reach the body's oxygen demand. But in pulmonary fibrosis, the rise in ventilation and cardiac output is restricted and so decreased oxygen in the blood becomes worse further. This is why the percent saturation of hemoglobin in blood decrease (from 97% to 90%) when they exercise.
