Answer #1

7. The patient is having Cushing's syndrome

A condition resulting from the hypersecretion of glucocorticoids from the adrenal cortex, can result from prolonged administration of corticosteroids.

8. The patient got this disease by taking excessive amount of corticosteroid for prolonged period.

Pathophysiology - A loss of normal feedback inhibition by cortisol occurs.

Elevated levels of cortisol don't suppress hypothalamic and anterior pituitary secretion of corticotropin-releasing hormone and adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH).

The result is excessive levels of circulating cortisol.

9. The provider can confirm the diagnosis by the following test :-

A low-dose dexamethasone suppression test shows failure of plasma cortisol levels to be suppressed. Follow up with a 24-hour urine collection for free cortisol and creatinine to confirm the diagnosis.
