In 2001, the federal government enacted a law that forbade any
student with a drug offense from receiving financial aid. Lovenheim
and Owens (2014) study the effect of this law on college enrollment
behavior by examining how enrollment among those with convictions
changes relative to those without convictions in a
difference-in-difference analysis. A difference-in-difference
analysis takes two successive differences. The first difference is
the difference between the pre and post-treatment values of a group
that underwent treatment and the difference between the pre and
post-treatment values of a group that did not undergo treatment.
Once these two values are calculated, the difference between these
differences is computed.
a) Using the provided information, calculate the
difference-in-difference estimate
No Conviction | Conviction
Pre-Change |
0.623 | 0.358 |
Post-Change | 0.652 | 0.269 |
b) Does the fact that college enrollment was rising throughout the United States for all students over the period cause a problem for their study?
A. This has been calculated below
No Conviction | Conviction | Difference
Pre-Change | 0.623 | 0.358 | 0.265 |
Post-Change | 0.652 | 0.269 | 0.383 |
Change | 0.029 | -0.089 | 0.118 |
The DID estimate is .118.
B. Yes this fact causes problems for the study as the factors used in study are not constant. We now need to know the increase across different types of student too to estimate the correct impact of the new law. If rates of all students were rising, we need to know how much were the rates rising for them to adjust for that organic increase in rates.

A student ran a between-subjects experiment comparing three treatments for depression: cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), client-centered therapy (CCT), and a no-treatment condition. Subjects were randomly assigned to the experimental condi- tion. After a sufficient duration on these treatments, the difference in subject’s depression scores pre/post study were measured using a valid depression assessment instrument. The data are summarized in the tables below. Conduct a Oneway ANOVA with α = 0.05 by first completing the values in the lower table, then using...
Identify the scientific premise, main hypothesis addressed by the paper and the research question of the paper Also, what is the main results and the implication of results IMPORTANCE Clinical outcomes for glioblastoma remain poor. Treatment with immune checkpoint blockade has shown benefits in many cancer types. To our knowledge, data from a randomized phase 3 clinical trial evaluating a programmed death-1 (PD-1) inhibitor therapy for glioblastoma have not been reported. OBJECTIVE To determine whether single-agent PD-1 blockade with nivolumab...
please provide a summary with intext citaion for this article: T HE HEART AND ESTROGEN/ progestin Replacement Study (HERS) was a randomized, blinded, placebo-controlled trial of the effect of 0.625 mg of conjugated estrogens plus 2.5 mg of medroxyprogesterone acetate daily on coronary heart disease (CHD) event risk among 2763 postmenopausal women with documented CHD.1 Overall, during 4.1 years of follow-up, there were no significant differences between the hormone and placebo groups in the primary outcome of CHD events (nonfatal...
Can you please explain in simple terms the methods of this experiment? I'm having difficulty visualizing and understanding what is being done. I have copied and pasted some of the text from the article. Thank you! Abstract : Obesity, high-fat diets, and subsequent type 2 diabetes (T2DM) are associated with cognitive impairment. Moreover, T2DM increases the risk of Alzheimer's disease (AD) and leads to abnormal elevation of brain beta-amyloid levels, one of the hallmarks of AD. The psychoactive alkaloid caffeine...
