Answer #1

Antithyroid medication is used for the treatment of hyperthyroidism. It stops the formation of the thyroid by producing T3 and T4 and thereby relieving symptoms. Propylthiouracil and methimazole are widely used in antithyroid medications.

Patient Education with IV cefotetan:

  • Educate the patient about adverse reactions such as nausea, vomiting, headache, diarrhea.
  • Advise the patient to inform if the IV line produces any discomfort or bleeding.
  • Advise the patient not to take alcohol at least for 3 days which produces serious effects such as stomach cramps/upset, headache, nausea.
  • Educate about the interaction of the drug with herbal products.

Patient teaching Levothyroxine:

  • Levothyroxine is a replacement hormone used to treat hypothyroidism.
  • Instruct the patient to take medication half an hour before food.
  • Check the thyroid level and to change the dose according to the need.
  • Instruct the patient to take regularly and not to miss the dose.

Insulin can be administered through subcutaneously just beneath the skin in the fatty tissues. The appropriate sites for injection are abdomen, thigh, and arm. It can be administered by using insulin syringes, insulin pens, and insulin pumps.
