TELEMEDICINE: Telemedicine refers to the delivery of clinical services at a distance. Telemedicine gives provider another way to deliver effective ,efficient care to patient . it provide a more convenient way to get the care they need.

TYPES OF TELEMEDICINE: The practice of telemedicine largely breaks down in to three types of solutions

1. store and forward
2. remote patient monitoring
3. real time encounters

1.STORE AND FORWARD TELEMEDICINE: it is also called " asynchronous telemedicine". it is a method by which health care providers share patient medical information like lab reports ,imaging studies ,videos and other records with a physician,radiologist, or specialist at another location .

• it is not unlike email, but it is done using a solution that has built- in,sophisticated security features to ensure patient confidentiality.
• it is efficient way for patients. primary care providers and specialist to collaborate because they can all review the information when it is convenient for them
• this approach gives patients access to a care team that can be comprised of provides in different locations , even across long distances and in different time zones .
• store -and forward is particulary popular for diagnosis and treatment with certain specialties including dermatology ,ophthalmology and radiology .

REMOTE PATIENT MONITORING :it is also known as telemonotoring . it is method that allows health care professionals to track a patient 'vital signs and activities at adistance .

• this type of monitoring is often used for the management of high - risk patients, like those with heart conditions and people who have recently discharged from hospital
• it is extremely used for the treatment of a number of chronic conditions .
• for example diabetic patients can track their glucose levels and send the data to their doctor
• elderly patients at home or in assisted living facilities can be conveniently and in expensively monitored.

REAL TIME TELEMEDICINE: patient and providers use vedio conferencing software to hear and see each other .it can be used in lieu of a trip to the doctors office in certain situations

• it is popular for primary care urgent care ,follow up visits and the management of medications and chronic illness.
• telehealth encounters should be conducted using technology that has been designed to protect patient privacy and meet the strict patient protection required by the health insurance portability and accountability act (HIPAA).

example- in rural areas telemedicine is effectively helpful for to provide emergency care, to decrease morbidity rate by providing care .education of people on health issues.

it decreases the mortality and morbidity rate of people in rural areas it provider should ,if safe feasible, stay on line with the patient until transfer of care can be given to the team assuming care.

• 2016-HRSA receives funding to expand use of telehealth in rural areas.
