Evidence has proven that hand hygiene ( either washing your hands with soap and water or by using a non water based alcohol rub such as Purell) is the most effective means to prevent the spread of infections, yet studies show, health care workers are only compliant about 50 % of the time. What are your thoughts on this issue? There are a number of reasons for low compliance; do some research on- line to find out what they may be, choose one and discuss it here with your classmates. Is that excuse you chose reasonable or not? What could be measures taken to increase compliance with hand hvgiene in health care workers?

Answer: People working in the healthcare organisations are at higher risk of accquire infection and specially the healthcare professionals. The mostly hands are contaminated with the germs and washing hands in a regular basis after every procedures can prevent any kind of transmission of infection to the healthcare workers.

Due to busy schedule, the healthcare professionals usually forgets to wash hands or some of them didn't give that much importance. To increase the compliance with hand hygiene in healthcare workers are:

• Encouraging the healthcare workers to maintain the hand hygiene.
• Provide reminder for hand hygienic conditions
• Encouraging the patients to ask the healthcare professionals to wash hands after assisting them.
