Read the scenario below. Use each philosophy identified above to explain three activities a health educator would recommend that fit with each philosophy.

Scenario: In the past week in your community, two young adults have been apprehended trying to sell or give marijuana to teenagers. A local citizens group has asked a health educator and two of his/her health education colleagues to attend a meeting concerning what to do about this issue. There are groups that are pro-marijuana and groups that staunchly oppose the use of marijuana. Given the recent changes in marijuana law, this is a contentious issue.

Activities of a health educator :Decision making Philosophy: Provide details about the risk of selling marijuana and what it does to teenagers .Emphasize the needs for living a productive life.

Behavior change Philosophy: Set up assured gifts and teach the persons about self limiting illegal activities. Make contract between local citizens and two young adults , that they both will start work in a honest way.In turn they will be provided some allowances for modifying their unhealthy behavior.

Freeing/Functioning Philosophy: Give lessons to the young adults on the ill-effects of marijuana use &consequences of selling it and also let them decide what is best for themselves , not what is good for society.

Eclectic Philosophy: Make them understand the complications of marijuana in teenagers . Allow them to realize about the consequences . So that they start adapting some other job to earn for their living.
