Tuberculosis is a disease spread from person to person by air
with a germ called Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
There are two tuberculosis-related conditions called latent TB
infection and TB disease or active tuberculosis.
Latent tuberculosis:
In case of latent TB, the infected person will not sick and will
not have any symptoms. They are infected with M.bacterium
tuberculosis but do not have the disease. they have a positive skin
test to tuberculosis. Half of the person develops with tuberculosis
will have two years of infection, they have a weak immune system or
with HIV infection or any other risk factors can cause latent TB
infection. A person with latent TB infection TB bacteria will be
alive, but inactive, they will not feel sick or spead TB bacteria
to others. they have normal X-ray chest and negative sputum test
and they can not spread TB bacteria to others.
Diagnostic criteria:
Skin test, X-ray chest, sputum test.
Treatment options:
Avoid contact with an infected person with multidrug-resistant
TB(MDR-TB) or extensively drug-resistant TB. treatment regimen with
Isoniazid twice weekly for nine months.
Active tuberculosis:
When a person has a weak immune system they get infected with
bacteria they spread TB bacteria to others. They show signs and
symptoms of weight loss, loss of appetite, night sweats, fever,
fatigue, chills, cough, hemoptysis, chest pain. it is a serious
condition can lead to death.
Diagnostic criteria:
skin test, sputum smear and culture, x-ray chest and CT scan
chest.
Treatment options:
Isoniazid, rifampin, ethambutol, pyrazinamide used for 6 to 9
months to treat tuberculosis with a combination of antibiotics used
for 20 to 30 months. Directly observed therapy is recommended to
help people adherence with their treatment.
